Monster Storms

On the next page click "Mission 1."
On the next page click "Defining a Storm."
Read this section & fill in the blanks on your notes.
When you have completed the reading you must choose 5 of the underlined words. On the left side of your notebook create a drawing for each word. Label your drawings.

You may use the internet for ideas, but images are usually blocked.

Have Mrs. Miles stamp your paper when your drawings are completed.

Analyzing Cemetery Data

Problem: What are the main causes of death over the last 200 years.

1. Click here to open the excel document with all of the cemetery data from BASTROP, ELGIN & AUSTIN.

2. Your table group will be given a range of dates.

3. You must find the year(s) with the largest number of deaths in your range.

4. Once you have found that year you must research the following things to find correlations between deaths and war/disease/disaster.

5. 1 person research Texas wars
1 person research diseases in Texas
1 person research any natural disasters that might have occurred near Bastrop (floods, fires)
1 person research man-made disaster that might have occurred (explosions, car wrecks, etc)

6. Each person must write a one paragraph conclusion that answers the problem question above.
Your paragraph must have at least 6 complete sentences. Your paragraph must include the following stem: I conclude that the deaths in the year ____ were caused by _____.

7. Turn paper into the class box.

1. Turn your graph paper sideways (landscape).

2. USE A PENCIL

3. Title the graph Texas State Cemetery Deaths

4. Label the x-axis Years

5. Label the y-axis Number of Deaths

6. Create a BAR GRAPH

7. Use colored pencils / markers to color your graph.

8. Put all names at the top of the graph.

9. Tape your graph to the colored paper.

Star Model Directions

Research the following info about your star:

Color
Temperature (K)
Distance from Earth in light years
Size (mass or radius)
Class (supergiant, etc)
Constellation your star is located
Brightness (magnitude)

Put the name in large lettering on both sides of plate.
Write the info above on front only
color both sides the color of your star
Cut the edges into a pointy star shape
Put your name on one side of star
